Santana de Parnaíba - In Tupi, Parnaíba is a place of many river islands or it is a bad river, impractical. The religious name was later added due to construction in 1580 of a chapel in honor of the saint. The city was born during the administration of Mem de Sá. In November 1625, the settlement grew up around the chapel and was elevated to the cathegory of a village. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries there was a certain development, promoted by the use of indigenous labor and the arrival of important families. Thanks to restoration techniques it preserves its historical heritage. With its colonial buildings, the city concentrates one of the most important architectural complexes of the state.
