Santo André - To support the constant attacks of Indians, João Ramalho built defensive walls, raised the City Hall in Santo André in 1550. The itinerant built in 1735 a small chapel and numerous inhabitants began to concentrate around it. The existence of São Paulo Railway improved the location. This gave rise in 1889 to the municipality based in São Bernardo and the districts of Santo André, São Caetano, Ribeirão Pires and Paranapiacaba. Santo André became a municipality and today is part of the Great ABC, in Greater São Paulo, one of the leading cities in the industrial landscape of Brazil.
