São Bento do Sapucaí - In 1811 a chapel was built to the image of São Bento, the chosen patron saint due to the proliferation of poisonous snakes in the region - in Catholicism the saint protects against snake bites. The name is also connected to the river Sapucaí on whose banks there were lots of native trees called sapucaia. The village grew famous. Became a city in 1876, replacing the name São Bento do Sapucaí Mirim to São Bento do Sapucaí only. Became a climatic resort of São Bento do Sapucaí in 1967.
