Aparecida - In 1717, Domingos Garcia, Felipe Pedroso and João Alves fished in the river Paraíba do Sul when the image of a black saint "appeared". The image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida is of terra cotta (clay, which is modeled after approporiate oven-baked) and is high about 40 cm. The color (cinnamon) is due to the fact of having been exposed for years to burning candles and lamps. It is an image of the seventeenth century. Devotion to Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida grew among people and many blessings were achieved to those who prayed before the image. Known worldwide, the religious-tourist resort of Aparecida annually receives millions of people from all over Brazil and abroad.
