Cabreúva - The name originated from the brown tree cabreúva (Myrocarpus Frondosus, family Leguminosae-Papilionoideae), known to Indians as "Kaburé-Iwa" (Owl Tree). Cabreúva was founded in the early eighteenth century. The cultivation of sugar cane and the manufacture of brandy launched the installation of devices that would become the most powerful economic force of the town for decades, producing rum that has gained notoriety far beyond its borders, giving the city the popular slogan "land of rum."
